A union parishad chairman at Moheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah came under criticism as he had taken away the bricks for three-kilometer road. He, however, claimed that he took the bricks home to preserve them. He deployed huge day labourers who carried the same on three wheeler nosimons. The mater has created spark among the people.
On the other hand union parishad chairman Safidul Islam said he had preserved the bricks at a safer place at his home for the safety so that it might not be stolen anyway.
Locals said the quality bricks were used on three kilometer soling road from the house of Raanju Biswas to Jama. Hossain of Sankarhuda village. Local government support programme (LGSP) of the local government department had constructed the road about two years back. Locally the system of the construction work of the road was known as soling road.
Now the office of the upazila project implementation officer (PIO) have started making the road Herring Bone Bond (HBB) with an estimated cost for Taka 5211,415.
Mandarbaria union parishad chairman Safidul Islam said he had preserved the bricks at a safer place at his home for the safety so that it might not be stolen anyway, not for any ill-motive. He will start the construction work of another road with the used bricks, he said.
Upazila project implementation officer (PIO) Meherun Nessa said they have started the construction work with the government rules through tender process. She (PO) could not understand why the union parishad chairman had taken away the government property without permission from the authority. The project officer also could not inform how much bricks were taken away by the chairman.
Acting upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Sujan Kumar Sarker said he was not informed that the chairman had taken away the bricks at his home.
