UP Chairman held in extortion case in Chuadanga

The Union Parishad (UP) Chairman of Makhaldanga union in Chuadanga was detained over an extortion case on Thursday. He was held from Belgachhi Rail Gate area.

The detainee was identified as Bishwajit Saha, son of Sontosh Saha, resident of Kukiachadpur village.

Police said the arrested Bishwajit Saha and five others demanded extortion from Afzal Hossain, resident of Garabaria village of the Sadar Upazila. They also vandalized Afzal’s business establishment and beat him up on June 24. Later, Afzal filed a case with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station on August 27. Bishwajit Saha was the main accused in the case.

However, local sources said locals attacked Bishwajit Saha at Belgachhi Rail Gate area on Thursday morning. Later, police reached there and arrested him.

Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Anwar Hossain said Bishwajit Saha was produced before the court after arrest.
