The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against three people, including the chairman of a Union Parishad of Shariatpur for embezzling Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice.
ACC Director and Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to reporters on Tuesday. He said Kamlesh Mandal, Assistant Director of Faridpur Integrated District Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case in Faridpur.
BM Nasiruddin Swapan, chairman of Kuchaipatti Union Parishad in Gosairhat upazila of Shariatpur district, Mofassel Bepari, a member of Ward 3 and Shamim Bepari, a member of Ward 9 of the same Union Parishad have been accused in the case.
The case alleges that the accused three conspired with each other to embezzled 1,590 kg of VGF rice from the government's food-friendly program allotted fot distributing among VGF card holding fishermen in Kuchaipatti Union by abusing power through irregularities, corruption and fraud.
