United Nations Police Day 2022 will be observed today (Sunday) in Dhaka under the joint auspices of Bangladesh Police and Police Division of United Nations Department of Peace Operations.
A press release of the police headquarters said that Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will inaugurate the day-long programme at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital as the chief guest while Md Akhtar Hossain, Senior Secretary, Public Security Division and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun will be present on the occasion.
Among others, Jun Tan, acting Police Adviser Commissioner of the United Nations Police Division, Mark Pedersen, head of the Integrated Training Service at the United Nations Headquarters, representatives of the Police Division and the Integrated Training Service, Brigadier General Giovanni Barbano, Police Chair of the IAPTC Executive Committee, Center for Excellence for Stability Police Unit will attend the opening ceremony.
This year the 26th annual conference of IAPTC will be held from October 31 to November 4 at Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operations Training (BIPSOT) in Gazipur. Officers from various levels of Bangladesh Police, trainers and peacekeeping mission officers will also attend the event.
Apart from this, high-level peacekeeping trainers from different countries of the world participating in the UN peacekeeping programme, will also attend.
The UNPOL Day was organized in New Zealand and Peru respectively in 2018 and 2019 just before the annual conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centre (IAPTC).
