Unilever Bangladesh (UBL) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) have joined forces for a pilot project titled ‘For People and Planet: Resilient, Healthy and Sustainable Food and Environment Systems.’
The initiative targets urban fresh markets, aiming to enhance environmental sustainability and public health by tackling plastic waste and improving food hygiene standards.
By promoting alternative innovations in plastics and engaging stakeholders, including market vendors and government officials, the project seeks to reduce and recycle low-value plastic waste.
Dr. Rudaba Khondker, Country Director of GAIN Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of human-centric design in transforming food systems sustainably, while Zaved Akhtar, Chairman and Managing Director of UBL, highlighted the partnership's contribution to Unilever's global sustainability strategy on plastics. The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to driving positive change and nurturing a more environmentally conscious society in Bangladesh.
