As part of women's empowerment, under the 'Skills Development Project' initiated by Khulna District Administration, sewing machines were distributed among widows, divorced and unemployed women to make them self-reliant on Tuesday.
Khulna Zilla Parishad Chairman Sheikh Harunur Rashid distributed the sewing machines as the chief guest while Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain presided over the programme held at the DC office conference room. It was informed at the function that Khulna district administration has arranged sewing training in four batches for three weeks under the Skill Development Project for 62 unemployed, widowed and divorced women. In the second phase of that programme, 30 of those women were given free sewing machines and training allowances on the day. Khulna District Council and Department of Women's Affairs assisted in the training.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (South) MM Shakiluzzaman, Deputy Director of Women's Affairs Nargis Fatema Zamin, Khulna Press Club President SM Nazrul Islam and Khulna Journalists Union President Munshi Mahbub Alam Sohag were present as special guests on the occasion.
Khulna District Council Chief Executive Officer Md. Ashaduzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Ziaur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (LA) Md. Shahnaz Parveen and others were also present.
