Unauthorised edu institutions in Cumilla enrolling students

Some primary and high schools in Cumilla run admission procedures illegally for years despite having no permission from education board. Officials of the Cumilla Board allegedly keep their mouths quiet in exchange for bribes.

Sources said, some schools and colleges under Cumilla education board run academic activities in rented or residential spaces. Any primary or high schools have to have 75 Satak (32,670 (Sq. ft.) land and college must have 100 Satak land to run academic activities.

Schools and colleges authorities allegedly applied to education board for authorization by submitting fake land documents and usually get authorization by the board for some unknown reasons. Board officials allegedly helping those unauthorised institutions in exchange for bribes.

Visiting different parts of the district, this correspondence noticed that a number of schools and colleges run their academic activities in rented or residential buildings and enrolled students for years illegally. 

Ruposi Bangla College mentioned their permanent campus in Chouara area nears Cumiila Adarsha Sadar south upazila but the college run its academic activities in another temporary places including Comilla Nurpur Housing State and Tomsom Bridge area for decades.

Cumilla Science College shifted their temporary places three times since it established ten years ago, Creative International College run its academic activities at Nischintopur area nears Moynamoti army cantonment after shifting their campus from Paduarbazar area. Comilla Pathsala College now at Nischintopur area after shifting from Borura area, Comilla Commerce College run its academic activities in a residential building abandoning its permanent campus in city’s Coatbari area.  

Metropolitan Commerce College, Comilla Cambridge College, Comilla City College, Cumilla Ideal College,  Abul Kalam College in Laksam, Comilla Public school and College, Aslam Khan School and College run their academic activities for years in rented or residential spaces despite the mandatory rule of having permanent campus.

They also enroll hundreds of students every year violating the rules.

There are allegations that some of schools and colleges’ principal have no legal paper of appointment from the board. They often use Principal, Professor before their name illegally.

Primary School inspector Professor Azharul Islam said that those schools cannot enroll students as they have no legal documents to run academic activities. 

Cumilla Education Board College inspector Professor Jahirul Patwari said Bangladesh Post that necessary stapes will be taken against these educational institutions after investigation.

“Colleges, who have not any legal documents from the board, cannot enroll new students.” He added.
