UN resolution on Bangabandhu’s birth centenary to be moved: FM

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said his ministry will take an initiative to move a resolution at the United Nations on the occasion of the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS. 

The minister came up with an announcement at the first meeting of the International Programme and Communication Sub-committee of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee held at the ministry on Thursday, said an official release issued on Friday. He said steps will also be taken to present Bangladesh’s foreign principle ‘Friendship towards all, malice to none’, enunciated by Bangabandhu, across the world.

Momen, also the sub-committee convener, said a ‘Bangabandhu Institute’ should be established to uphold the history and works of the Father of the Nation before the world. Former Foreign Minister AH Hahmood Ali, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Foreign Ministry Faruk Khan, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, former chief information commissioner Mohammad Zamir, former principal secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, former foreign secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed, painter Hasem Khan and other members were present at the meeting. 

Members of the sub-committee highlighted different aspects of the elaborate programmes taken for celebration of birth centenary of Bangabandhu. They suggested introducing an international award next to Bangabandhu and setting up ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ in different countries.
