University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), in association with the World Academy for the Future of Women (WAFW), held a closing ceremony to mark the completion of a year-long training on leadership skills by the graduates of Batch 2018-19 on 4 May at ULAB auditorium, Dhanmondi.
While adhering to the 17 SDG goals, students went through a rigorous training programme consisting of eight modules under the tutelage of life coaches from the US, Germany, China and the Netherlands.
The Minister for Education, Dr Dipu Moni, MP, graced the occasion as the chief guest and the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Harry Verweij attended the ceremony as the special guest.
Dr Dipumoni said, “Whenever we talk about our planet, whenever we talk about development, even whenever we talk about a meaningful life, women play a vital role in each place.”
WAFW has completed its first year of operation in Bangladesh with the support of its partnered institute ULAB.
After the programme's immense success in China and Nepal, WAFW unfolded its Bangladesh Chapter in ULAB on 14 October, 2018. It is an eight-month long leadership programme aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals designed by Jerrie Ueberle for acceleration and advancement of women’s leadership worldwide.
Through this training, future leaders learned to take initiatives actively towards expanding gender equality, social justice and human dignity for women around the world.
Taheerah Haq, member, ULAB Board of Trustees; Kazi Nabil Ahmed, MP, Member, ULAB Board of Trustees; Maaike Van Vliet, WAFW facilitator and former diplomat; Professor Dr ShamsadMortuza, Pro-Vice Chancellor (VC), ULAB also spoke at the ceremony.
Professor Dr HM Jahirul Haque, VC, ULAB and Professor Imran Rahmam, special advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees handed over crest to Dipu Moni and Harry Verweij respectively.
Guests and representatives from Red Orange Media and Communication, Amal Foundation, UNFPA Ambassadors and British High Commission Executives were also present.
