British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke on Wednesday said that the UK would work with Bangladesh to further strengthen Dhaka-London ties on trade and security partnership fronts.
"We discussed working together, strengthening UK Bangladesh ties, boosting our trade and investment, strengthening our security partnership," she told reporters after holding a meeting with foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the foreign ministry in the capital city of Dhaka.
The envoy said the UK would work together with Bangladesh on challenges such as climate change, migration and welfare of Rohingya.
Meanwhile, the high commissioner said they will also continue to engage constructively with the Bangladesh government and political parties on democracy and human rights issues.
"I had a very productive meeting with the minister this afternoon," she said while describing her maiden talk with the newly appointed Bangladesh foreign minister.
Officials of the British High Commission in Dhaka in their official site mentioned that British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sarah Cooke, had a productive meeting with Hon. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Thursday.
They agreed to work together on boosting UK-Bangladesh trade and investment ties, strengthening our security partnership, and collaborating on global and regional challenges including climate change, migration and the welfare of the Rohingya.
The UK encourages dialogue and reconciliation in political life in Bangladesh. Creating the conditions for a sustainable political settlement and vibrant civil society will enable long-term growth.
