British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke on Wednesday said the United Kingdom (UK) recognized the bravery and sacrifices of the youth during the Student-led uprising in July-August in Bangladesh.
"The UK recognises the bravery of the young Bangladeshi people whilst calling for a democratic and inclusive future for Bangladesh," she said. The high commissioner made the remark while visiting the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) along with Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, said a British high commission press release here.
Currently the visiting UK Emergency Medical Team is operating at NITOR.
"My visit to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation today with Hon. Health Adviser was another reminder of the horrific violence that happened during the Jul-Aug protests," said the British envoy.
The highly experienced UK medical team has consulted dozens of injured students at the NITOR starting from 5 November.
They are also carrying out two to three complex surgeries every day and providing physiotherapy and rehabilitation support.
"Speaking to the patients I met today, it was clear that the UK Emergency Medical Team has provided much-needed specialised treatment working together with the hospital team," Cooke said.
