UGC permits three varsities to conduct academic activities

The university Grant Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) has given permission to three universities to conduct academic activities from the next 2023-24 academic year.

The decision came from a meeting chaired by UGC member Professor Dr Mohammad Alamgir, said a UGC press release.

The universities are Kurigram Agriculture University (KAU), Sunamganj Science and Technology University (SSTU) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMMSTU), Pirojpur.  

The universities will be allowed to admit students from the next year and asked to enroll a maximum of 40 students in each department with an aim to ensure participatory education and achieve the actual purpose of education.

In the meeting, the UGC asked the university authorities to appoint brilliant, skilled and experienced teachers to ensure quality education, added the release.  

UGC Member Professor Dr Md Abu Taher, KAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AKM Jakir Hossen, SSTU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Abu Naim Sheikh, Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Pirojpur Dr Kazi Saifuddin and UGC officials were also present in the meeting.
