The research proposals of two teachers of Comilla University have been placed in the final list of published research project proposals of Business Studies/Administration for the financial year 2022-23 under the Research and Publication Division of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC).
This information has been confirmed through a press release signed by UGC Deputy Director (Arts and Social Science) Rekha Rani Bakchi on Sunday.
Professor of Accounting and Information Systems Department, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman is on the first place in the final list based on the index determined by the commission. His research topic is 'Stock Market Volatility during Covid-19 Pandemic: The Significance of Government Action'. Apart from this, Assistant Professor Mohammad Omar Faruque of the same department also got the research project of UGC. His research topic is 'Sentiment Analysis of Corporate Annual Reports for Forecasting Financial Distress Using Machine Learning Method: Evidence from DS30 Listed Firms'.
On the approval of this project of UGC Professor Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said, 'I have received funds twice from UGC in a short period of time. Research is now valued financially, socially and institutionally in Bangladesh. Overall there are a few more projects I will be working on. Besides, since I work with financial matters, especially with banks and stock markets, I will try to work with these related matters in the future.'
On this, Assistant Professor Mohammad Omar Faruque said, "Getting a grant for research naturally acts as a joy. It gives inspiration to the researcher. The research grant I got from UGC will help my research. The results of our research will accommodate everyone, that's the hope."
He further said, "We should encourage basic researches. In this case, UGC will encourage more such projects in the future."
It may be noted that 20 research projects have been given final approval out of a total of 37 project proposals received in the financial year 2022-23 from the Business Studies/Administration sub-branch of Arts and Social Sciences under the Research Support and Publication Division of UGC.
