The Chairman of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof S M A Faiz, emphasised the need for effective implementation of the 'Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)' project. He spoke as the chief guest at a workshop on teacher training held at the UGC on Monday.

Prof Faiz highlighted the importance of reducing the gap between teachers and students. He urged educators to understand students' expectations and emotions to create a better learning environment. “Today's students are talented,” he said, stressing that teachers should respect their feelings and connect with them more effectively.

The workshop also featured special guest Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tanjimuddin Khan, who called for increased investment in education to sustain development. He stated that education should be central to improving Bangladesh's human development index and urged teachers to focus on creating skilled human resources.

To enhance the skills of university teachers, UGC has developed a comprehensive training module. Starting next November, a four-month basic training programme will be organised for new university educators.

The workshop aimed to outline the next steps for the participants in this training. Attendees included directors and representatives from the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of 106 private universities across the country. Other notable speakers included Dr. Durga Rani Sarkar and several UGC officials who contributed to the discussion.
