Expatriates of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet living in different countries, especially the expatriates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have stood by the flood-hit people of some areas in Noakhali and Feni districts with relief.
Kanaighat Probasi Samaj Kalyan Parishad-UAE, a social platform of expatriates of Kanaighat upazila living in the UAE; recently distributed relief in different upazilas of Noakhali and Feni.
Junaid Ahmed, president of the organisation; told the Bangladesh Post over telephone that they collected funds from UAE expatriates of Kanaighat upazila for the flood-hit people. Alongside the members of their organisation, many expatriates of the Kanaighat community in Dubai and Abu Dhabi also extended their support to this fund. A relief fund was formed as a result. Cash was distributed from the fund to the flood-affected people in Sonagazi and Daganbhuiyan upazilas of Feni and Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali.
Two representatives from Kanaighat Probasi Samaj Kalyan Parishad-UAE-- named Salim Uddin and Helal Ahmed-- went to Feni and Noakhali with cash for relief cooperation. Some dignitaries of Kanaighat upazila and local dignitaries of the flood-hit areas were present during the relief distribution programme.
Among them, Maulana Sayed Faizullah Bahar, an Islamic scholar and vice principal of Sylhet Jameya Islamia Kamil Madrasa; Master Md Foysal Ahmed, president of Kanaighat Peshajibi Forum; Poet Sorwar Faruki, president of Kanaighat Sahitya Sangsad, student leaders Maruf Ahmad Chowdhury and Mizanur Rahman. Sayed Faizullah Bahar said, Kanaighat expatriates are playing a role in the social service and humanity. He appreciated Kanaighat Probasi Samaj Kalyan Parishad-UAE for extending their support to the flood-hit people of Noakhali and Feni. He also appreciated the humanitarian activities of expatriates in other countries.
Md Foysal Ahmed said, UAE expatriates of Kanaighat upazila have set an example by sending relief. Expatriates of the upazila in different countries are playing a significant role by responding to different contexts of the country.
Poet Sorwar Faruki praised the expatriates and said that the economy of Bangladesh survives on the sweat of the expatriates.
