Two new vaccines for children for typhoid and mosquito-borne diseases are being added to the expanded immunization programme from next year. Conjugate vaccine for typhoid and Japanese encephalitis vaccine for mosquito-borne diseases are added.
Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali came up with this disclosure during the presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Thursday.
HE said the government has continued the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) to protect children and women from various deadly communicable diseases.
Currently, immunization programmes against 11 deadly infectious diseases are being conducted for children, adolescents and women under the EPI programme.
Along with this, it has been decided to add Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine and Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine to the EPI programme in 2025.
He said, from October 2023, the human papilloma virus vaccine against cervical cancer of women has been included to the vaccination programme.
This vaccination is being given in the form of a campaign to all 10-14 year old girls and 5th-9th class students of educational institutions. Already, the 1st phase of the campaign has been successfully completed in Dhaka Division.
