Two youths were electrocuted in a picnic boat at Baramaipara canal in Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj.
The accident happened on Tuesday (August 4) afternoon when the boat was struck by an electric wire. Three more people were injured in the incident.
The deceased were identified as Antar (20), son of Golap Miah of Gurui Purbopara and Monir (18), son of Asid Miah of the same area. The three injured are Burhan, Jhuton and Shafiqul.
According to the locals, in the afternoon, some youths from Gurui Purbopara went out for a picnic in an engine driven boat. While the boat was passing through Baramaipara canal, the electric wire being hung low a possibility of the boat getting stuck arose. At that time, the whole boat was electrified as soon as the youth Monir, who was in the boat, grabbed the electric wire. Monir and Antar were electrocuted on the spot and three other youths were injured. The injured are being treated at Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur.
