A Narayanganj court on Sunday sentenced two people to death and nine others to life rigorous imprisonment for killing four people in the murder case filed with Fatulla police station under Sadar upazila in the district.
The two death-row convicts are Mahi Feetar and Tajul Islam while life term rigorous imprisonment convicts are Chand Mia, Dulal, Mujibor, Shafikul Islam, Abdul Mannan, Arif, Jalil, Saiful Islam and Ibrahim.
The additional district and session judge Sabina Yasmin pronounced the judgment in the court room.
Additional public prosecutor Abdur Rahim confirmed the report.
According to the prosecution report, the ill-fated four were Nasir Mia, Mongol, Foysal and Hannan. They all were stone carrier bulkheads that traveled from Munshiganj to Sylhet.
All the convicts killed four men in the Buriganga River at Baktabali area in September, 2009, prosecution added.
Earlier, one Ershad first recorded a general diary and later filed a murder case with Fatulla police station after getting two bodies in the Buriganga River. One of the convicts Arif had given the confessional statement before the court during the investigation.
