Two sisters were killed as they drowned in a pond near to their house at Kohit village of Tarash municipality in Sirajganj on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Yafi, 8, and Isha, 6, daughters of Hayat Ali, resident of Kohit village of the district.
The victims’ grandfather, local municipal councilor Rabbel Ali, confirmed the matter.
According to local sources, the sisters went to a pond next to the house at the noon. After a long time, their mother saw them floating in the pond. The victims were rescued from the pond and taken to Tarash Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Sirajum Munira, doctor of the emergency department at Tarash Upazila Health Complex, said that they died before they were brought to the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarash police station Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter.
