Two siblings among 8 killed in dists

At least eight people, including two siblings were killed in separate road crashes Bogura, Sylhet and Rajshahi on Sunday.

Of them, four people, including two siblings were killed in Bogura while two in Rajshahi and two others in Sylhet. In Bogura, a girl and her brother were been killed in a collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a three-wheeler in Nandigram upazila of the district on Sunday.

The accident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday at Saratola on Kathom-Kalignaj Road in Bogura.

The deceased were identified as Juthi, 20, and her brother Jihad, 17. Their mother Jesmin Begum was injured in the accident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nandigram Thana Alamgir Hossain said Juthi died on the spot while Jihad breathed his last at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital on Sunday morning.

Later, police handed over the bodies to their family members.

In another incident, two people, including a woman, were killed in a collision between a microbus and a motorcycle on the Amtali-Patuakhali road in Dakterbari area under Amtali upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Pushpa Begum, 65, hailed from Nishanbaria Gandabari village under Kalapara upazila and motorcyclist Rubel, 32, a resident of Chowla village in Amtali upazila of the district. The woman was returning home along with the dead body of her son, who died under treatment last night at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital, boarded on the freezer van (ambulance).

Police said the accident occurred around 10 am in the area. Both of them died on the spot.

Police recovered the bodies and kept them in Amtali Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge of Amatali Police Station Kazi Shakhawat Hossain confirmed the matter. 

In Rajshahi, a head-on collision between two buses resulted in the deaths of two bus drivers and left 12 passengers injured on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in the Kamarpara-Abhaya area of Godagari upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased drivers were identified as Ratan Sutradhar from Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj and Asadul Haque from Belkuchi of Sirajganj.

Abdul Matin, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, provided details of the incident, explaining that a bus of Madina Travels, heading from Chapainawabganj to Rajshahi around 11 pm, collided with a Hanif Paribahan bus traveling from Dhaka to Chapainawabganj. The collision occurred when the Madina Travels bus attempted to overtake a truck at high speed, resulting in a head-on impact with the Hanif Paribahan bus.

Both buses were severely damaged, said OC Abdul Matin. Emergency services arrived promptly to rescue the injured and transported them to Godagari 31-bed Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them to the morgue for autopsy.

The accident caused a significant traffic jam, stretching approximately 10 kilometers on both sides of the highway. The situation was finally brought under control after the two buses were removed from the road, according to the OC.

Authorities are investigating the incident further to determine the exact cause and any potential negligence involved.

In Sylhet, two person were killed and one was injured in a road accident in Companiganj of the district.

The deceased were identified as Smrity Akhter, 25, wife of Delwar Hossain and their seven-year-old son Abdullah, a resident of Kamargaon village of Narsingdi district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companyganj Police Station Golam Dastgir confirmed it.

He said the accident occurred when a speedy truck ran over the auto rickshaw this evening in Khagail area of Sylhet leaving Smrity Akhter and her son Abdullah dead on the spot and Delwar Hossain injured critically.

Police seized the truck and auto-rickshaw.
