A court in Bhola sentenced Mohammad Mamunur Rashid Mamun, 48, and Mohammad Firoz, 40, to death in a 2016 double murder case that took place at the Bapta Union Parishad in Bhola Sadar. Bhola District and Sessions Judge Md Mohsinul Haque pronounced the full verdict in the sensational murder case at on Wednesday.
In the presence of thousands of curious people standing in front of the court and in the presence of 4 of the 5 accused, the lawyer of the plaintiff and the defendant, the judge announced the full verdict.
In the presence of more than a hundred lawyers, the judge said that the case of Session 195/20,GR-328/18 Bhola and Section-302/34 was filed on 14/5/2018 in the 4th ward of Bapta Union of Bhola Sadar Upazila. Mostafizur Rahman (56) filed a complaint with Bhola Sadar Model Police Station. He said that although there were 5 accused in the murder case, after reviewing the signatures of 23 witnesses and the statements of the accused and cross-examination of the state and the accused's lawyers, it was proved to the court that 1st accused Mamunur Rishad Mamun (48), 2nd accused (fugitive) Md Firoz (40) and No 3 accused Md Sharif (22) were directly involved in the murder. So Mamun and the fugitive Firoz were sentenced to death and Sharif was sentenced to life imprisonment considering his age.
On the other hand, the 4th accused Arif (16) and Rehana Begum (40) were acquitted as the charges against them were not substantiated.
It is to be mentioned that this double murders took place in front of Bapta Union Parishad of Bhola Sadar Upazila on May 13, 2016 at around 11 pm.
