Two Rohingya men, who were accused in Jubo League leader Omar Faruk murder case, were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Md Abul Karim, 27, son of Jamir Ahmed, and Nesar Ahmed, 29, son of Syed Hossain of Nayapara Rohingya camp.
The gunfight took place at Jadimora area of Hunila Union at the upazila. Being informed, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive there around 2:00 am.
Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradip Kumar Das said sensing presence of the team, the Rohingya men opened fire on policemen, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
After the gunfight, police rescued bullet-injured Karim and Nesar and took them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on duty doctors declared them dead, OC Pradip said.
Police also recovered two firearms and seven bullets from the spot, he added.
Three policemen-- ASI Kazi Saif Uddin, constables Nabil and Rabiul Islam-- were also injured in the incident.
Omar Faruk, 30, a local leader of Jubo League, was shot dead on August 22. His elder brother Osman Gani alleged that some Rohingya men picked up Omar and took him to a hill nearby home where they shot him to death.
Since the killing, five Rohingya men, who were accused in the murder case, were killed in reported gunfights.
