Ishan Mia, 20, and Monir Hossain, 25, were stabbed to death in Brahmanbaria's Ashuganj. Two more people in the incident are undergoing treatment in critical condition. The incident took place at Lama Bayek village in Lalpur union of the upazila on Tuesday (September 29) evening. Tensions have been high in the area since the incident.
According to police and locals, a man named Ali Azam of Lamabayek village in Lalpur Union had borrowed Tk 1 crore from Saudi expatriate Mizanur Rahman six to seven months ago for a dry fish business. But Ali Azam did not pay the money in the end even though he promised to return the money more than once. Ali Azam had a dispute with Mizanur over the issue.
On Tuesday evening, Mizan Miah's son Ishan went with his cousin Monir to ask Ali Azam for money. At this time a conversation started between the two sides. At one point, Ali Azam's men attacked Ishan and his cousin Monir with sharp weapons. Ishan and Monir Hossain were killed on the spot. Tafsir and Russell were injured in the stabbing. The injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Later, the seriously injured Tafsir was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Faizur Rahman Foyez, a doctor on duty at the emergency department at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, said Ishan and Monir died before they could be brought to the hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station Jabed Mahmud said the incident was being investigated. Police have been deployed at the spot.
