Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two members of a fake currency making gang along with the equipment for printing fake notes.
Based on a tip-off, RAB-5 personnel of Joypurhat camp conducted a raid and arrested them from Barman Para area in Sadar Upazila of Joypurhat district on Monday afternoon.
The arrested persons are Md Arafat Azizul Haque, son of Anisur Rahman of Mool village under Kalai Upazila in the district, and Ahsad Ullah, son of Alamin of Rangamati area under Dhamoirhat upazila in Naogaon district.
The RAB men also recovered fake notes, cash and various equipment for printing fake notes from them.
In a press release on Tuesday morning, RAB-5 captain Asif Al Razek said Arafat and Ahsan have been involved in the business of making and marketing fake notes for a long time. The arrested persons admitted that they made fake notes on the occasion of upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja and passed the fake notes off as real money by tricking them into bundles of real money. They also said that they used to sell these fake notes in various markets.
