Two ‘killers’ arrested after killing of mother, two sons in Panchagarh

Two suspected killers have been arrested after the wife and two children of a businessman were hacked to death by criminals at Kurulia village in Atwari upazila of Panchagarh on Wednesday night.

The deceased are businessman Saad Selim's wife Taslima Begum, 32, elder son Saikat Sheikh, 14, and younger son Saiham Sheikh, 8. They were killed with sharp knives and boti in a planned way.

After the incident, businessman Saad Selim filed a case with Atwari Police Station accusing four people. With the help of the army, the police arrested the two accused -- Nabin Islam Zahid, 22, son of Fazlar Rahman of Pashchim Satkhamar village under Boda municipality area, and Rimon Islam, 30, son of Naushad Ali of Nagarkumari village.

Panchagarh Superintendent of Police SM Sirajul Huda held a press briefing at his office on Thursday afternoon after the incident. At the briefing, he said within 12 hours of the murder, the police arrested one accused with the revelation of the mystery. The blood-stained knife used in the murder was also recovered. Due to previous enmity, four people committed the murder. Later, another accused was arrested from Boda Bazar.

The SP said around 11:30pm on Wednesday, clothe businessman Saad Selim of Boda Bazar under Boda Upazila in Panchagarh returned to his house at Kurulia village in Atwari Upazila and found the bodies of his wife Taslima Begum and two sons lying in a pool of blood in the dining space. At that time, the people around came to his house hearing Selim's screams, saw the bodies of three people lying on the floor and called '999'.

On receiving the information, the CID Crime Scene Management Team of the Atwari Police Station reached the spot. After completing other legal proceedings, the CID team learned that Nabin Islam Zahid, 22, son of Fazlar Rahman of Pashchim Satkhamar village, a neighbour of Saad Selim, was treated at Boda Upazila Health Complex and Thakurgaon Modern Hospital with a cut palm on his left hand. Based on the information, the army and police arrested Nabin Islam Zahid who was hiding in the house of Delwar Hossain of Kurulia village.

During interrogation, Zahid said he along with three others -- Sazzadur Rahman Badhan, 27, son of Shafiur Rahman of Boda municipality area, Rimon Islam, 30, son of Naushad Ali of Nagarkumari village, and Md Rifat, 32, son of Salim Uddin of Islambagh (Collegepara) village -- went to Saad Selim's house around 8:30pm on Wednesday and killed his wife and two sons with a knife and boti for not getting the businessman.

After the murder, the knife and boti used in the killing were thrown in the bamboo grove behind Selim's house. According to the information given by him, the police recovered the knife used in the murder. In this incident, Saad Selim filed a murder case with Atwari Police Station against four persons.

The SP said that the bodies were recovered and sent to Panchgarh Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. An operation is on to nab the other accused. Nabin Islam Zahid, the arrested accused, was sent to jail by the court on Thursday afternoon.

In response to a question, the SP said that all four people involved in the murder were drug addicts. They all worked in Saad Selim's chicken farm. Saad Selim removed them from their jobs for the crime of selling various items, including chicken food, due to drug addiction. Because of this incident, they came to kill him but killed his wife and two children for not getting him. 

On Thursday afternoon, the police arrested another accused in the case, Rimon Islam, from the T&T intersection of Boda Bazar.
