Two people, including a woman, were killed and another was injured in two separate road accidents in the capital in the last 24 hours.
Sub-inspector Bachchu Miah, also camp in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, confirmed the matter on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Jhut Businessman Md Sohel, 38, and maid Mosa. Mariom Akhter, 35. Both hailed from a village under Islampur thana of Jamalpur district.
The injured person was identified as Jhut businessman Md Salauddin, 40, son of Haji Roshan Ali of Rustampur village under Bandar Thana of Narayanganj district.
Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kawsar Ahmed Bhuiyan said an accident occurred when Sohel and Saluddin were going to Bakshibazar from Palashi Moor riding on a motorcycle at around 2:30 am on Thursday.
A reckless truck coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle in the area, leaving the duo critically injured, the SI said.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty doctor declared Sohel dead at around 3 am, he added.
Pillion rider Salahuddin was admitted to the hospital for treatment, he said.
A case has been filed in this connection, the SI added.
Sabuj Bagh Thana police and DMCH police camp sources said in another accident, a car hit a woman named Mariom while she was crossing the road under the Basabo flyover in city's Sabujbagh area around 10:30 pm on Thursday night, leaving her critically injured.
She was rushed to DMCH, where the duty doctors declared her dead around 12 midnight.
The bodies of the deceased were kept in DMCH morgue for autopsy, said Sub-Inspector Bachchu Miah.
