Two groups of committee members of Rajshahi New Market Traders Association locked in quarrel over reopening of the market on the backdrop of Coronavirus situation.
A group headed by the President and the Treasurer of the organisation opined to reopen the market while another group headed by General Secretary of the organisation is favouring not to reopen the market under such Corona situation.
In protest against the decision of keeping the market closed further, common traders of New Market took out a procession and staged a demonstration in front of New Market on Sunday morning. However, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the agitators from there.
It is learnt, on Saturday night, Vice-President New Market Traders' Association Selim Ullah Mithu and General Secretary Monjur Hossain Chumku in a press release informed the traders that they were holding meeting to find out whether they would reopen the market under such situation.
In the meeting eight members including General Secretary of the Association opined not to open the markets under such situation while President and the Trasurer of the Assoc. Nurun Nabi Lulu and Tajul Islan Bachchu respectively opined to reopen the market and the meeting ended without any decision.
On Monday morning some traders went to open the market while most of the traders of New Market were against such an early reopening and they resisted the bid to open the market.
Traders complained, President of Assoc. was instigating some traders to reopen the market amid Cornavirus situation. However, Persident of the Assoc.
Nurun Nabi Lulu refuted the allegation and said, she does not know anything in this connection rather he opined to reopen the market as the government has allowed reopening markets at a limited scale. But, in such situation, he was favouring to keep the market closed.
