A court in Rajshahi awarded two young persons rigorous life imprisonment in the sensational, juvenile Sony (16) murder case and also ten years more rigorous imprisonment for them for abducting Sony before murdering him.
Mohiduzzaman, Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal in Rajshahi pronounced the judgment in a crowded court on Monday noon. The convicted persons have been identified as Moin alias Annaf(20) son of Mamun of Shahjipara area of Hatemkhan of Rajshahi city and his girl-friend Habiba kumkum Saba alias Oishey (19) of the same area.
Mother and Maternal Uncle of Main who were also accused in the case, were acquitted because the charges brought against them could not be proved.
Deceased Sony's father is the Vice-President of Rajshahi district Motor Shramik Union Rafiqul Islam Pakhi.
According to sources, in July-3,2022 victim Sony was abducted from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital areas and taken to the Hatemkhan Sabjipara area and then he was killed by stabbing. Sony's father filed a case accusing nine persons in this connection. In the aftermath of the incident, Bithi, a leader of Mohila Dal, escaped with her son Moin and her girlfriend Oishi. On the night of July 8, RAB arrested three of them from Protapgram of Kurigram district. Later, police submitted a chargesheet against nine accused persons of whom five were underaged.
The trial of four matured accused was held at the STT. The court awarded the key accused Moin and her girl-friend Oishi a life term of rigorous imprisonment and ten years more imprisonment for abducting the victim. The allegations brought against two other accused could not be proved and they were acquitted of the charges.
Entazul Haque Babu, State Prosecutor and Lawyer for victim Sony said the court mentioned that the two accused committed crimes and that they should be awarded the death sentence but considering the underage, they were not awarded capital punishment rather were awarded the life.
He expressed his dissatisfaction and said the murdered Sony was also underaged but he was brutally stabbed to death. The age of the awarded accused is more than 18 that is why they should have been awarded capital punishment, he added.
