Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained two drug peddlers and seized 30,000 pieces of yaba pills and a pick-up van used to carry drugs from Dhurumkhali area at Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday night.
The detainees are Nurul Islam, 28 and Md Faruk, 19, residents of Teknaf Upazila. They were used to dealing drugs for a long time in guise of driver.
Additional Police Superintendent (Media) of (RAB-15) Md Abul Kalam Chaudhury said the drug dealers have recently been dealing drugs adopting new techniques. Acting on a tip off, RAB came to know that huge amount of yaba pills were being carried by a poultry chicken laden pick-up van from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar through Ukhiya to Cox’s Bazar link road. According to the information, a temporary check post was set up on Cox’s Bazar link road in front of Jamal market in Dhurumkhali area on Thursday night. During that time, a chicken-laden white pick-up van was seized when it was trying to cross the check post quickly.
The Additional Police Superintendent said during the interrogation, the detainees admitted that they were carrying yaba pills in their pick-up van. Later, 30,000 pieces of yaba tablets were seized after searching the vehicle in front of the witnesses present there.
Additional Police Superintendent (Media) of (RAB-15) Md Abul Kalam Chaudhury confirmed the matter and said a written FIR was filed with Ukhiya Police Station with the seized drugs, other documents and the detainees for necessary legal measures.
