Two young men were chopped to death on brought day light at Kotchandpur upazila town on Thursday. The clash took place between the supporters of Awami League Koctandpur upazila unit general secretary Shahjahan Ali and municipality mayor Shaiduzzaman Selim. The deceased were identified as Akter Hossain, 22, son of Abu Taleb of Elnagi village and Jiban Mia, 21, son of Feroj Hossain of Talmillpara in the town. The clash erupted following collection of too from newly established Bazer at Chowgachha Bus stand in the town.
Both of the deceased belong to Kotchandpur municipality mayor Sahiduzzaman Selim’s group. Four others including Sabbir Hossain and Sohag Hossain sustained severe injuries. Later the police inn Kotchandpur had detained two young men for interrogation, police said.
Police and eye witnesses said some Ashraful, Amirul, Sohag and Mithu belongs to Awami League general secretary Shahjahan Ali were ruling the Bazer for past few years. As the ownership of the Bazer was changed in the Bengali new year, municipality Mayor Shaiduzzaman Selim’s men Dawn and Hasan along with their supporters appeared there and barred from collecting the toll at about 11 am. They stored sharp weapons in the office of Jatiya Paribahan Sramik league and swooped on the toll collecting group that made the area battlefield.
Injured six were rescued from the spot and taken to Kotchandpur upazla health complex, while the attending physicians declared Jiban dead.
Later inured Akter succumbs to his injuries n the way to Jashore 250 bed hospital in the afternoon.
