Two cases have been filed against 25 individuals, including 17 named, over the murder of army officer Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar, who was killed by robber during an arms recovery operation at Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday (September 24).
The cases were filed on Wednesday night (September 25) by the army and police. Six have been arrested in connection with the murder. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria police station Manzur Kader Bhuiyan confirmed the matter.
One of the cases, involving charges of murder and robbery, was filed by Senior Warrant Officer Abdullah Al Harunur Rashid from the Fasiakhali Army Camp, while Sub-Inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain filed the another case under the Arms Act.
“Two separate cases have been filed by the army and police over the murder of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar. So far, six named suspects have been arrested in a joint operation by the police and army. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, including those unnamed,” said OC Manzur Kader.
The deceased Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar, 23, was leading the raid during the incident that took place on Tuesday (September 24) night at Maizpara village under Dulahazara union of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
During the operation, a group of 7-8 armed robbers tried to flee after spotting the army patrol team. When Tanjim Sarwar chased some of the robbers, they attacked the Lieutenant, stabbing him in the neck, resulting in severe injuries and heavy bleeding, reads a statement issued by the Bangladesh Army on Tuesday.
He was immediately taken to a local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
