Boalia police in Rajshahi have arrested two persons from the Terokhadia and the New Market areas of the city for allegedly misappropriating some Tk 300 crore in the name of Online Currency Trade.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nurun Nabi Palash,33, and Minarul Haque Mithu,34.
SI Golam Mostafa of Boalia PS informed that the police of Boalia thana and Rajpara thana jointly conducted a drive to arrest Palash and Mithu. Police arrested Palash on Thursday noon from the ninth floor of Green Tower near Terokhadia stadium and based on his information, police arrested Mithu from the Asian Sky shop of New Market around 5-30 PM the same day.
A case has been filed against arrested Nurun Nabi Palash, Minarul Haque Mithu and Anarul Islam on the allegation of cheating, threatening people and extortion on September 13 with Boalia police station by one
Anowar Hossain Nayan of Chapainawabganj.
Moreover, another case was filed against the accused on the allegations of the dollar scam with the court of Chapainawabganj. DB police of Chapainawabganj are investigating the case, informed SI Golam Mostafa.
He further informed, Nurun Nabi Palash and his cohorts had misappropriated some Tk 300 crore from some people of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj in the name of online currency (BitCoin) trading. The people who were cheated by such trading had filed at least 10 cases against Palash, Mithu and Anarul in this connection.
Arrested Nurun Nabi Palash son of late Jul Mohammad Sardar is hailed from Kadamtoli village under Gomastapur upazila of Chapainwabganj district while Minarul Haque Mithu son of Alim Uddin is hailed from Khoddokachutia village under Boraigram upazila of Natore district. Another accused of the case Anarul Islam Joy son of Abdul Hannan of Luxmipur area of the city remained absconding. Police were trying to arrest him.
