Two babies with conjoined chest-abdomen were born at Patharghata in Barguna. A housewife named Sukhi Akhter gave birth to the conjoined twins at a private clinic without operation at around 5:30 pm on Saturday.
The manager of the hospital Moniruzzaman informed that the twins died before they were born. They were both baby girls.
Al-Amin, the father of the newborns, said that his wife felt pain in her stomach in the morning. The pain got worse when she drank water from a local fakir to reduce the pain. In the afternoon, Dr Bashir Ahmed advised them to do an ultrasonogram. Her condition deteriorated, when she was taken to the hospital.
The resident doctor of the hospital Taslima Sharmin said, after the patient was brought to the hospital around 4.30 pm, I made arrangements for the delivery through first aid due to the serious condition of the patient. Two conjoined twins were born without any surgery.
She added that the mother was seven months pregnant. Although the newborns were physically fit, the cause of their death in the womb could not be determined.
