The Cannes Film Festival is buzzing with excitement as it reaches its midpoint, with two highly anticipated films making their debut. A biopic about former U.S. President Donald Trump, titled "The Apprentice," directed by Ali Abbasi, promises to stir controversy in this election year. Starring Sebastian Stan, renowned for his roles in Marvel films, the biopic delves into Trump's formative years.

Meanwhile, legendary director David Cronenberg presents his latest work, "The Shrouds," a deeply personal film inspired by his own experiences. The movie follows a widowed businessman, portrayed by Vincent Cassell, who creates a machine to monitor the dead in their graves. Cronenberg's film explores themes of grief and loss, drawing on the director's own emotions following the death of his wife.

Among the standout entries of the festival's first week is "Emilia Perez," a daring musical about a narco boss undergoing a sex change. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the film has garnered acclaim for its bold storytelling and stellar performances, particularly from stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, and trans actor Karla Sofia Gascon.

Additionally, Hollywood showcased two blockbuster films outside the competition. "Furiosa: a Mad Max Saga" received praise for its action-packed sequences, while Kevin Costner returned to his beloved Western genre with "Horizon: An American Saga." Costner, who invested his own funds into the project, remains undeterred by mixed reviews, emphasizing his commitment to following his artistic vision.

The Cannes Film Festival continues to captivate audiences with its diverse selection of films, promising more surprises as the event heads towards its conclusion. Stay tuned for further updates on this year's cinematic extravaganza.
