Bangladesh left arm medium pacer Fariha Trishna endured a horrific run with the ball in the first three overs and conceded 19 runs. However, the left -arm pacer bounced back in the final over of the innings and picked up three wickets of the last three deliveries to become the third player in the women T20 cricket to bag a hat-trick.
But her record hat-trick went in vain when Bangladesh lost the match by a huge 58 runs and as well as lost the series.
Trishna dismissed Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineux and Beth Mooney in the second match of three-match T-20 series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket stadium on Tuesday. She took four wickets in the match.
Hong Kong's Kary Chan and Uganda's Aweko Numungu are the two other women cricketers who bagged two T20I hat-tricks. Fariha registered her first hat-trick against Malaysia in 2022 on her debut game.
Overall, this is the third hat-trick for Bangladesh in T20Is with the other one recorded by Fahima Khatun in 2018 against the United Arab Emirates.
Earlier, winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first. All-rounder Georgia Wareham’s scintillating half-century (57 runs off 30 balls) propelled Australia women to secure the series against hosts Bangladesh with claiming 58 runs win in the series decider match leaving one match remaining. Australia managed 161 for eight in 20 overs. Hosts Bangladesh scored 103 runs for nine wickets in stipulated 20 overs.
Meanwhile, Australia saw a bit setback at the early stage of their innings with losing their first wicket just for 15 runs on the board when the Left-hand batter Phoebe Litchfield was caught by Murshida Khatun off Faria Trishna.
After losing the early wicket, Australia rebuilt their innings comfortably with Grace Harris and Georgia Wareham adding 91 runs in the second wicket partnership from 54 balls.
Georgia Wareham’s fifty came from 26 balls with nine fours.
The other opener Grace Margaret Harris was just three runs short to get 50, she got out for 47 runs off 34 balls with six boundaries and a six before being caught by Rabeya Khatun off Fahima Khatun.
Middle order batters Tahlia May McGrath’s 19 from as many balls and Ellyse Alexandra Perry scored 29 off 22 balls helped Australia to set a challenging score.
In reply to chase the target 162 runs, Bangladesh openers made 34 from 26 balls. Left-hand batter Murshida Khatun who scored 20 runs in the first match, this time failed scored only eight runs before being caught by wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy off right arm fast medium bowler Megan Schutt. Opener batter Dilara Akhter was the top scorer with 27 runs.
Australia’s right arm off- break Ashleigh Katherine Gardner and slow left arm orthodox Sophie Molineux took three wickets each conceding 17 and 10 runs respectively.
