People of all walks of life including different political parties, educational institutions, corporate bodies and socio-cultural organizations in Rajshahi on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to the four slain national leaders on the occasion of Jail Killing Day.
Marking the day, huge wreaths were placed on the grave of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, in city's Kadirganj family graveyard besides garlanding of portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders at Awami League’s party office.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) observed the Jail Killing Day paying rich tribute to the four national leaders, assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975 through a daylong programme.
Several mourning rallies were brought out and marched toward the grave of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman to pay homage to the national leader.
City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, eldest son of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, along with his office colleagues and employees placed wreaths on the grave and offered prayers there.
A blood donation programme was also held at the city Bhaban premises followed by a discussion meeting and doa mahfil.
After Zuhr prayers, milad and doa mahfil was held at Sonamasjid Jame Mosque and city bhaban wakita mosque and other ward level mosques.
City and district units of Bangladesh Awami League and its associate bodies observed the day through various programmes and paid rich homage to the martyred.
Besides, Divisional and district administrations, police administrations, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology,
Rajshahi Education Board, Rajshahi Medical University, Zila Parishad, Bangladesh Silk Development Board and various other educational and financial institutions including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank also observed the day in befitting manners.
