Tree plantation week began atKhulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on Thursday to increase forest coverage for maintaining ecological balance in the region. Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Prof Dr Kazi Sazzad Hossain formally inaugurated the tree plantation week at a function in front of the Administrative Bhaban on the campus. President of tree development committee Md Akkas Pathan chaired the event.
Teachers, students and employees of the university, among others, were present at the function Speaking at the function, Prof Dr Kazi Sazzad Hossain called upon all to plant sapling for interest of the ecology and environment. “We have to plant saplings offruit, wood and medicinal bearing trees for safeguarding our environment. We have to increase forest coverage to build a green buffer zone for protecting the country from natural calamities,” he said. The other speakers also emphasised on tree plantation.
