Tree plantation programme of univ students in Ishwardi

A total of 4,000 saplings of various fruit and medicinal plants were planted and distributed at a formal ceremony at Sahapurin Ishwardiupazila of Pabna district on Thursday afternoon as part of the month-long tree plantation programme in the upazila.

The month-long campaign is being carried out under the supervision of the university students and patronisation of the organising secretary of the district Awami League and lawmaker of Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia) constituency Galibur Rahman Sherif.

On this occasion, a rally was organised at Bansher Bada High School, Nurjahan Girls’ High School and Babulchara High School in Sahapur. Member of Parliament Galibur Rahman Sherif was the chief guest at the event while Ishwardi Upazila Chairman Emdadul Haque Rana Sardar spoke as the special guest and school headmaster Shamsul Haque presided over it. University students --Asaduzzaman Asad, Bakul Sarkar, Saim Khan, Enamul Hossain, Enamul Kabir, Saeed Hossain, Faisal Hossain, Rakib Hasan and Jiban Hossain -- and hundreds of students, teachers, parents and well-wishers of the three educational institutions were present at the event. Apart from this, Ishwardi Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Emlak Hossain Babu, former Vice-Chairman Asadur Rahman Ripon, Sahapur Union Awami League President Akal Uddin Sardar, General Secretary Atiyar Rahman Bhola, Vice-President Wares Ali Fakir and other leaders and activists of various levels of the organisation were also present.

Earlier, lawmaker Galibur Rahman Sherif inaugurated the month-long tree plantation programmeon Ishwardi-Pakshi road near Abul Mansur Khan Stadiumon June 21.

This month-long tree plantation programme is being conducted under the overall management of Sabbir Ahmed, former senior vice-president of Pabna Science and Technology University branch of Chhatra League. 

Sabbir Ahmedsaid Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina has given instructions that not even an inch of land can be left vacant. “To implement her instructions, we have started the programme of planting trees in the empty places of Ishwardi Upazila. Local MP Galibur Rahman Sherif is fully sponsoring this programme,” he said. 

He said 4,000 saplings of different fruits and medicinal plants were distributed among students on Thursday. About 5,500 saplings have been planted in different areas of the upazila till Thursday. There is a target of planting over one lakh trees in phases, he said.
