With the aim of environment protection and forest development, tree plantation and sapling distribution programme was held at Gurdaspur in Natore on Thursday.
The programme was held on the Upazila Parishad premises in the morning. Saplings of medicinal and forest plants were distributed among the students of various educational institutions at the programme.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Salma Akter presided over the programme. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asadul Islam, Agriculture Officer Harunur Rashid, Secondary Education Officer Selim Akter, Social Service Officer Shafikul Islam, Gurudaspur Pilot Government High School Headmaster Jahangir Alam Mithu, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Gurudaspur unit president and coordinator Khalid Hasan and Upazila Forest Officer Abul Kashem were present as special guests. The guests spoke about protecting environment and necessity of tree plantation. Besides, teachers and students of several schools were present at the programme.
The students were urged and encouraged to plant trees at their schools and houses. They were also made aware of the importance of protection of the environment.
