Leaders of Rajshahi Divisional Transport Owners' Association have called an indefinite transport strike in eight districts of the division from November-1 to press home their eight-point demand.
Safakat Monjur Biplob, President of RDTOA informed if their eight-point demand including cancellation of services of BRTC buses at the upazila level is not realised withing October-31, an indefinite transport strike will be observed in the division from November-1. Their key demand is to cancel BRTC bus services at the upazila levels.
It is learnt, leaders of Rajshahi Transport Owners' Association and the Bogura Transport Owners' Association held a meeting on Saturday where the decision of transport strike was taken.
The BRTC bus services have been launched from Bogura, Rajshahi and Joypurhat. As a result, private transports are facing a scarcity of passengers in those routes.
Transport owners have claimed, BRTC buses will be allowed to ply from one BRTC depots to another depot through the highway. But, those buses are plying at the upazila levels now.
They further said, the transport leaders have repeatedly talked with the BRTC depot managers to withdraw their services at upazila levels but there was no result. As a result of the movement of BRTC buses in local routes, they were suffering from adequate passengers. In protest against such situation, the leaders of RDTOA are going to start an indefinite transport strike in Rajshahi division from November-1.
