Instead of counting sheep, young ‘Transformers’ fans can now close their eyes to the sound of Optimus Prime's iconic voice.
The meditation app Calm recently dropped a new audio Sleep Story called "History of the Transformers," which documents how the franchise's Autobot/Decepticon conflict came to be. The story is written by Ryder Windham and read by Peter Cullen, Optimus' original voice actor and longest-running voice behind the Autobot leader since the original 1980s cartoon. In addition to exploring the warring Cybertronian factions' past, "History of the Transformers" will take "listeners deeper into the MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE themes of the iconic franchise, exploring bravery, leadership, friendship and STEM."
"I am pleased to be bringing TRANSFORMERS to Calm Kids through an imaginative and adventurous bedtime story," Cullen announced in a Calm.com statement. "I hope through this story that families and kids can get the sleep they need to conquer their days." A free, thirty-second preview is currently available on Calm's website, in which Optimus transforms before telling the listener that he'd like to "personally thank you for your kindness."
Cullen first played Optimus Prime in 1984's The Transformers cartoon and its 1986 tie-in theatrical film The Transformers: The Movie, in which the character tragically died during a fight with Deception leader Megatron. He would later reprise his role as Optimus Prime in Michael Bay's 2007 live-action Transformers movie, going on to return in all five Bay-directed films and its 2018 spin-off Bumblebee, the last of which featured Optimus in his G1 form. ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ comes out Dec. 22, 2023.
