Training on info rights to build public awareness held

The Ministry of Labour and Employment organised a day-long training session on information rights in Cox's Bazar on Thursday, June 20, to enhance public awareness about these critical rights.

The training saw participation from officials of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Directorate of Inspection of Factories and Institutions, the Directorate of Labour, as well as journalists and civil society representatives.

The session covered essential topics, including right to information laws and regulations, the process for accessing information, and the roles and responsibilities of both requesters and responsible officers in handling information requests and appeals.

State Minister of Labour and Employment, Bir Muktijoddha Nazrul Islam Chowdhury MP, emphasised in his keynote speech that the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, enshrined freedom of thought, conscience, and speech in Bangladesh's constitution. He highlighted the ministry's commitment to ensuring the free flow of information to the public, underscoring its role in promoting transparency and accountability, which are crucial for good governance.

Nazrul Islam Chowdhury also announced forthcoming updates to labour laws and regulations, aimed at balancing the interests of both workers and employers. 

He stressed the importance of collaboration between workers and owners in driving the country's development, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mahbub Hossain, presided over the event, reinforcing the government's dedication to transparency.

This training was part of the annual action plan on Right to Information, reflecting the government's ongoing efforts to implement and uphold these rights nationwide.
