At least two passengers suffered with severe burn injuries when miscreants set a passenger train on fire on Friday night in the capital’s Gopibagh.

Witnesses said the four compartments of the Dhaka bound Benapole Express were damaged as miscreants set fire to the train in Gopibagh area, near to the Kamalapur Railway Station, at around 9:30pm.

The train was en-route to Dhaka, carrying passengers from Benapole.

On information, seven firefighting units fought for dousing the fire, said Talha Bin Zasim, the station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense.

Locals said soon after the fire was noticed, the train was stopped on the spot and local people went forward to douse the fire.

They also brought the injured two passengers out of the train.

Earlier on December 19, at least four people, including a mother and her child, were killed when another train was set on fire in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
