The traditional two-day horse race was inaugurated at a local field of Chatmohor in Pabna on Friday. D.N.F Manab Kalyan Foundation Chatmohor Pabna organized the race on the occasion of Baishakh (the first month of the Bengali calendar).
A total of 50 horses with jockeys from different parts of the country took part in the first day of the race.
D.N.F Manab Kalyan Foundation president Masud Rana presided over the inaugural ceremony. Heroic Freedom Fighter Alhaj Abdul Kuddus Sarkar inaugurated the race.
The jockeys and their horses from Narail, Tangail, Bogura, Pabna, Natore and other places of the country took part in the race on the first day. The best horses were run in the final edition of the race on Saturday.
The horses were classified into three categories according to their size.
Milon Hossain, one of the spectators hailed from Adimpur area of Singra, said, “Horse race is a part of our culture. Such races are on the verge of extinction. People love to watch horse race with great enthusiasm.”
A large number of people from Pabna and other districts enjoyed the first day of the horse race.
