Chuadanga district Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection fined Tk 70,000 to a trader in Jibannagar upazila in the district on Wednesday for selling fertilizers at a higher rate than the price fixed by the government.
Assistant Director of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Chuadanga district office, Moha: Sajal Ahmed, conducted a drive at Uthli bus stand in Jibannagar upazila on Wednesday noon and fined trader Md Jahir Uddin Tk 70,000.
Assistant Director Sajal Ahmed said a drive was conducted at Uthli bus stand in Jibannagar upazila on Wednesday noon. Fertilizer dealers, grocery stores, and other establishments of daily products were monitored during the drive. Evidence was found during the monitoring that a BADC (Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation) fertilizer dealer named Messrs Jahir Traders was selling fertilizers at a higher rate than the price fixed by the government. Each sack of TSP (Triple superphosphate) fertilizer, the price of which is Tk 1350, was being sold at Tk 1940, Tk 600 more than the fixed price by the government. The owner of the establishment, trader Md Jahir Uddin, was fined Tk 70,000 under Section 40 and Section 51 of The Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009, for selling fertilizers at a higher price than the government-fixed rate, not keeping vouchers of purchasing and selling fertilizers properly, and selling expired pesticides alongside good pesticides. The expired pesticides were destroyed in public at that time.
Several other establishments were monitored at that time. All the traders were told to be aware and they were instructed to sell products at a fair price, keep vouchers, and show price list. Awareness leaflets were also distributed at that time. A team of Chuadanga police assisted during the drive. The drive will continue in the public interest, said the Assistant Director.
