Trade bodies urge prompt steps to resume economic activities

Country's leading trade bodies urge strongly to take prompt measures in restoring industrial production and financial activities through ensuring normal law and order situation in the country.

Calling to form interim government as soon as possible, the country's apex trde body, the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) in a statement said that the activities of export-import, production, supply chain are being hampered badly which is ultimately harm to economy and entrepreneurs of the country. 

"The economic losses will multiply in the coming days unless immediate measure is not taken to improve the situation", said FBCCI in its statement.       

The statement, signed by the FBCCI Executive Director, mentioned that its very urgent to keep the productivity at industries and factories, business and economic activities full swing for the greater interest of the nation.

FBCCI also expresses its commitment to work cordially and closely with the coming interim government along with all other trade bodies of the country.

Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has expressed deep concern over the severe deterioration of law and order situation across the country following the step down of the Awami League led government. 

MCCI also demanded fair investigation into all the killings and ensuring fair justice and compensations for the deceased students also to take measures for treatment of students, injured during movement on quota disparity.

In a statement, signed by its President, Kamran T Rahman, MCCI expressed it's deep concern over the deterioration of law and order situation in the last 2 to 3 days across the country.

"Country's business, trading and commercial activities, foreign investment all these will  be severely impacted if this situation goes on. It will also create negative impact on new employment creation", MCCI added.

MCCI urged all political parties and general people to be responsible from their own position so that restoring normalcy in every sector is possible immediately.

MCCI also expressed its farm commitment to extend all out cooperation to the interim government.         

Meanwhile, In the wake of recent political unrest and challenges, the country's largest chamber, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) underscores the urgent need for quick revival of law and order and request all necessary action to restore normal economic activities as soon as possible.

"The nationwide economic operations have been significantly hampered. In this regard, immediate measures are essential to restore the law and order condition to recover from the significant damage. It is imperative that economic operations resume at the fullest extent for the greater interest of the nation", said DCCI.

Terming the private sector as the key driver of the economy, DCCI stressed prompt and substantial supports to overcome the setbacks caused by recent disruptions. Addressing the law, order and economic stability are immediate and utmost priorities in the country.

Dhaka Chamber has also expressed its commitment to work closely with all relevant stakeholders including the next interim government and others through coordinated endeavors to end the current headwinds for the much-needed prosperity of the nation.
