The tourist police have arrested three Rohingya robbers involved in the organised robbery of five tourists at the 'Tourist Umbrella Market' near Labani Point of Cox's Bazar beach.
Tourist Police Cox's Bazar Ajnal Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) Md. Apple Mahmud informed that the accused were arrested in separate raids in different areas of Cox's Bazar late on Friday night.
The arrested accused are - son of Hamid Hochen, a resident of B-block of Rohingya camp number 5 Kutupalong of Ukhia upazila. Noor Kamal (19) and Md. of the same area. Bashir's son. Son of Farooq (20) and Nurul Kabir. Nurul Islam (19).
Tourists who are victims of robbery are Asif Mia (22), son of Momin Mia, Disaman area of Ward No. 20 of Comilla city and his friend Md. of the same area. Simon (18), Md. Suman (39), Md. Hriday (20) and Md. Yashin (33).
According to the police, 5 friends reached Cox's Bazar by bus from Comilla on Friday morning. They got down from the bus and went to Lavani Point beach to get some fresh air. On the way, they were stopped by a group of 4/5 robbers when they reached the tourist umbrella market area adjacent to Labani Point.
Later, the robbers stole wallets and mobiles and other important goods from the tourists by threatening them with weapons.
ADIG Apel Mahmud said that the affected tourists complained about the matter to the tourist policemen on duty on the beach immediately after the incident on Friday morning. Later, the police started an operation to identify and arrest those involved soon after being informed about the incident. In order to identify those involved in the incident, various activities are carried out, including the use of information technology.
The police was able to identify them.
"Friday late at night, the police raided various areas of the city, Noor Kamal and Md. Nurul Islam was arrested. Later, according to their confession, the police carried out a separate operation. Another Rohingya robber named Farooq was arrested. "
The Additional Deputy Inspector General said, “The arrested have confessed their involvement in the incident during preliminary interrogation. Four Rohingya youths were involved in the robbery. The police operation is on to arrest the other Rohingya involved in the incident. "
Appel Mahmud said that a case against the arrested accused has been sent to the Cox's Bazar court.
