The central headquarters of ruling Bangladesh Awami League has issued ultimatum to the presidents and general secretaries of the party’s different front organisations and associate bodies to form their full-fledged committees within two weeks. The ultimatum has been issued with due to dilemma in the completion of the full-fledged committees as well as anger from the root level leaders and activists of the party.
The party sources also said that the ultimatum has been issued also for speeding up organisational activities and strengthening the capacity as well. According to sources, alongside the two Dhaka City units of Awami Jubo League, committees of different other units and associate bodies were formed through councils held recently. But, almost all the committees remain incomplete. Those committees got only their presidents and general secretaries leaving most of other posts vacant.
Since most of the posts of different committees remain vacant, a large number of party men, who deserve to be leaders for different posts, now have no position. The party sources also said that root level leaders and activists have informed the matter to the high command of the Awami League and as a result, ObaidulQuader, the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, issued ultimatum to the presidents and general secretaries of different units to complete the full-fledged committee through selecting leaders for other posts.
He had made phone calls to the leaders concerned on behalf of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, also the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Talking to the media, Abu Ahmed Mannafi, the president of Dhaka City South Unit of Awami League, admitted that he had received a phone call from Awami League general secretary regarding the formation of a full-fledged committee of his unit.
“I have been given an ultimatum of 15 days to complete the task”, said Abu Ahmed Mannafi. Asked, Afjalur Rahman Babu, general secretary of Swechchhasebok League, also admitted that the same matter has been discussed with Obaidul Quader. “We are trying to complete the task within next 10 days”, said Afjalur Rahman Babu.
It is mentionable that the process of holding councils of Awami League and its different front organisations and associate bodies had started in the month of November last year. The council of Krishok League was held on November 6 and the council of Shramik League was held on November 9. Accordingly, the council of Swechchhasebok League was held on November 16, Jubo League on November 23, Awami Matsyajibi League on November 29, two units of Dhaka City Awami League on November 30 and the Central Council of Bangladesh Awami League was held on December 20 and 21.
Each of the committees had been given ultimatum for the formation of full-fledged committees within a week. Talking to journalists, Awami League’s presidium member Kazi Zafarullah, however, said that the completion of full-fledged committees was delayed by the elections to two city corporations in Dhaka. “Party men had to remain busy with the elections in Dhaka City polls and that is why it was delayed”, he said adding that the remaining tasks will be finished as soon as possible for the betterment of the party and its leaders, activists and supports.
