‘Toofan’ sweeps out of Indian cinemas

Shakib Khan's latest film 'Toofan', directed by Raihan Rafi, made a splash upon its release in India, but within a week, it has been withdrawn from most theaters due to low audience numbers.

'Toofan' hit screens on July 5 in Kolkata, India, initially drawing starkly contrasting results compared to its reception in Dhaka.

The film suffered significant losses for Indian theater owners, prompting its removal from cinemas on

Friday.

Released across more than 45 theaters by SVF Productions, 'Toofan' is now only showing in one theater in South 24 Parganas. It has been pulled from all other venues.

Kolkata theater owners attribute the film's struggle to attract audiences to Shakib Khan's lesser popularity compared to local stars like Prosenjit, Dev, and Jeet. Despite his booming fanbase in Bangladesh, Khan failed to draw substantial crowds in Kolkata, leading to its swift removal from screens after just a week.

Reports indicate that only Bangladeshi viewers in Kolkata turned up to watch 'Toofan', resulting in disappointing box office earnings that didn't surpass 10 lakhs.

Despite initial optimism from the film's director, producer, and stars Shakib Khan and Mimi Chakraborty, they have yet to publicly address its underwhelming performance.
