Although the people of Kurigram Sadar’s Tograihat area are happy following approval of the draft proposal to set up an agricultural university in the poverty-stricken district, they want the university to be set in their area.
The draft of ‘Kurigram Agricultural University Act-2020’ was approved at the virtual cabinet meeting on December 21 in 2020. So it is a time of matter to set up a university in the district.
People of an area of the district want to see implementation of the university project in their area, while people of other parts want to see the proposed university in their areas.
Against this backdrop, people of Tograihat held a meeting to press their demand of establishing a full-fledged agricultural university in their area at Tograihat Dwimukhi High School ground on Monday.
Aman Uddin Ahmed Monju, General Secretary of Kurigram district Awami League, Alhaj Md. Shah Alam, Principal of Rajarhat Adarsha Mahila College, Abdul Haq Bepari, member of district council, Brigadier General (retd) Mohammad Mandal, Freedom Fighter Azizur Rahman, General Secretary of Kurigram Press Club Aminur Rahman and others addressed the meeting organised by locals.
The speakers strongly demanded the establishment of a full-fledged agricultural university in the Tograihat area announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
